Web Alert: New regulation in Fujairah for ill and injured crewmembers seeking treatment

News & Insights 31 January 2017

The club’s Dubai correspondent, GAC, has reported a new regulation, which went into effect on 19 January 2017, for the port of Fujairah in regards to disembarking sick and injured crewmembers from ships.

The club’s Dubai correspondent, GAC, has reported a new regulation, which went into effect on 19 January 2017, for the port of Fujairah in regards to disembarking sick and injured crewmembers from ships.

Ships that disembark sick or injury crewmembers at Fujairah will not be granted permission to sail out of port until the crewmember in question is either declared fit to travel or until the ship owner or their agents arrange for their visa and repatriation.

In the event of a crew injury or death, the incident also must be notified to police authorities and ship will not be permitted to depart the port until it receives clearance from the Police General Head Quarters. Clearance will be granted if the crewmember is repatriated or the agent arranges for a visa for the crewmember.

The club’s correspondent advises that members may want to consider alternate ports, such as Jebel Ali or Sohar, for any crew disembarkation on medical grounds to avoid delays.

The club awaits further updates from GAC on this issue and will provide further updates in due course.
