The Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organisation (‘IMO’) recently approved a set of Interim Guidelines on Maritime Cyber Risk Management (the ‘Interim Guidelines’). The Interim Guidelines were published by the IMO as Circular MSC.1/Circ.1526.

The aim of the Interim Guidelines is to provide a range of recommendations to the shipping community to guard against the risks posed by the current and future cyber threats.

The Interim Guidelines set out the background to cyber risks in the maritime industry, including the types of systems in use which may be vulnerable to attack (such as bridge and cargo management systems) and steps to take in order to manage such risks.

The Interim Guidelines can be downloaded by using the link on this page.
