Further to our web alert of 24 May 2013 concerning the entry into force of the Maritime Labour Convention, The International Group has continued to engage with competent authorities in each State Party to the MLC, in order to seek confirmation that IG club certificates of entry will be accepted as evidence of shipowners’ financial security.   By way of clarification, financial security of the shipowner is required for the liabilities established under Standard A2.5 of the MLC, concerning repatriation of seafarers.   The IG clubs have agreed to extend the scope of standard cover to include repatriation in the circumstances listed in the Standard, including insolvency.
