In response to an increase in the number of pollution accidents during routine bunkering operations the Standard Club has decided to focus on this issue in this edition of Standard Safety. This publication gives essential advice for bunkering operations including, planning, pre-bunkering checks and general safety to name but a few.

It should be noted that bunkering is one operation that every vessel participates in and its often routine operations which have the greatest potential for accidents and pollution incidents, due to overfamiliarity and complacency amongst participating crew. With severe penalties for pollution accidents, there has never been a better time to reacquaint yourself with the common practice of bunkering.
