Richard Stevens, Divisional Claims Director, discusses the risks posed by seafarer access to improved communications in the November edition of Maritime Risk International.

There is little doubt that developments in technology in the last two decades have brought about a revolution in the way individuals communicate. Clearly there are benefits for seafarers, allowing them to maintain regular communication with family, friends and loved ones. This can alleviate anxiety of being away from home for long periods of time and the isolation that may bring.

However, in the last few years there has been a steady increase in the warnings issued by health services and medical bodies as to the potential physical and mental side effects of prolonged use of personal technology.

Richard Stevens, Divisional Claims Director, has contributed an article to Maritime Risk International about these risks. The full article is available to download via the link on the right.
