News: Beaching operations in India following the general lockout due to Covid-19 outbreak
News & Insights 5 April 2020
The general lockout in India has also affected ships’ beaching operations in various ports.
The club has previously issued a web alert about the situation in Indian ports following the general lockout in an attempt to minimise the spread of the COVID-19 which is available on the right. This lockout expires on 14 April 2020 but it is under review for further extension.
This general lockout in India has also affected ships’ beaching operations in various ports. Even though beaching has not been officially suspended all the major ports are currently closed for such operation, mainly due to lack of labour. Moreover, the immigration authorities will not sign off any crew and customs are unwilling to attend on board.
Members whose ships are expected to call at any Indian ports soon for beaching are invited to liaise with their appointed local agent to obtain further details. Club’s Underwriters should also be notified when a member decides to carry out a scrapping voyage in order to make sure that P&I liabilities are in place.
