News: Argentine Parana River at historically low level

16 October 2020

Our correspondent in Argentina has provided a circular (available in the attachment box) concerning the historically and critically low water level of the Parana River.

The weather forecasts do not anticipate any relevant rainfall to improve the river height any time soon. Accordingly, owners should be aware of the risks of grounding when navigating this river.

In the circumstances members are reminded of the importance of proper passage planning, bridge team managment and liaision with the pilot, and to be alert as to the condition of the river when navigating the same.

It is recommended that members liaise with the designated port agent prior to arrival at the river and on departure from terminals, and to check daily with their agent and duty pilot as to the prevailing river conditions.

We thank Sebastian Trigub of Pandi Liquidaores S.R.L for this update.
