Web Alert: Definition of 'ship' under Article I (1) of the 1992 Civil Liability Convention (CLC) – follow up
In our web alert dated 25 September 2015, we reported about the guidance prepared by the IPOC Funds’ secretariat to ascertain whether a vessel falls within or outside the definition of 'ship' under Article I (1) of the 1992 Civil Liability Convention (CLC). This guidance has been approved (with minor editorial correction) by the 1992 Fund governing bodies in April 2016 and is now available to download at the IPOC Funds website.

Web Alert: Hazards associated with the transport of lithium-ion batteries
Following recent media attention surrounding the incidents of self–ignition of lithium-ion batteries used in the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and the product recall, the Club has received a number of queries in respect of best practices concerning the safe carriage of such batteries as well as issues of club cover arising from carriage of the batteries as cargo onboard members’ vessels.

Web Alert: Safety concerns during lifeboat drills
The club is aware of a significant number of lifeboat related incidents leading to death and personal injuries over the past few years. Following a recent incident during routine drills (September 2016) which resulted in one fatality on board a cruise ship, renewed attention has been given by the shipping industry to safety consideration issues during lifeboat drills.
