Web alert: Update on the safety of Egyptian ports & the Suez Canal

News & Insights 20 August 2013

The Suez Canal and the Canal cities continue to be safeguarded by the police and the Egyptian armed forces.

The Suez Canal and the Canal cities continue to be safeguarded by the police and the Egyptian armed forces. To date, there have been no disturbances to ships transiting the Canal or trading at Egyptian ports. A temporary curfew lasting from 19:00 – 06:00 remains in place in a number of cities (including Alexandria) and this curfew may restrict the attendance of surveyors and the transportation of cargo beyond the port limits. There are minimal disruptions to cargo operations within the ports but nevertheless, all ships trading to Egypt or transiting the Canal should remain vigilant. Members are advised to remain in close contact with their local agents and to contact the Managers should further assistance be required.
