The club’s local correspondent in Uruguay (Chadwick Weir Navegacion S.A.) has issued a circular highlighting the phytosanitary requirements for the export of soya beans from Uruguay to China. The protocol has been agreed and signed by the corresponding authorities of both countries after a number of claims reported last year (in 2016) due to presence of quarantine pests. Please refer to the attached circular and protocol for further details.
Reportedly, there were also a significant number of claims relating to soya beans exported from Uruguay to China, due to high moisture content and self-heating of the cargo.
Members with ships loading soya bean cargo in Uruguay destined for China are recommended to appoint a surveyor to check the cargo condition prior loading and assist the Master against any quality / quantity issues at the load port.
Members are also recommended to refer to Standard Cargo publication on safe carriage of seedcake cargoes.
