ReCAAP ISC has published its monthly report on piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia. In November 2016, a total of 10 incidents were reported, of which six were actual incidents while four were attempted incidents.
ReCAAP ISC has published its monthly report on piracy and armed robbery against ships in Asia. In November 2016, a total of 10 incidents were reported, of which six were actual incidents while four were attempted incidents.
ReCAAP ISC further advises that cases of abduction of crew from ships in waters off Eastern Sabah and Southern Philippines remain a concern. More information can be found here.
In respect of the number of incidents reported from January to November 2016, ReCAAP ISC reports a 60% decrease compared to the same period last year.
ReCAAP ISC Advice
ReCAAP ISC advises that the shipping industry should adopt the following measures:
- Re-route where possible;
- Enhance vigilance and adopt anti-piracy measures;
- Raise alarm and alert the crew when sighting suspicious boats approaching or in the vicinity;
- Report to the Philippine Coast Guard’s Operations Centre and coastal states when sighting suspicious boats approaching or in the vicinity;and
- Increase speed and conduct evasive manoeuvres.
