Governing board resolutions have been issued by the POEA in the Philippines to impose a deployment ban on Filipino overseas workers to Iraq and Kuwait.
The POEA imposed a deployment ban to Iraq in governing board resolution no 2, series of 2020 dated 10 January 2020. This is said to be due to escalating tensions between Iraq and the United States. The ban includes crew changes and shore leave of Filipino seafarers.
The POEA has also imposed a deployment ban to Kuwait in governing board resolution no 4, series of 2020 dated 15 January 2020. This is due to a lack of protection and of welfare of Filipino overseas workers in Kuwait. As with Iraq the ban includes crew changes and shore leave of Filipino seafarers.
Members should be aware of these restrictions when seeking to arrange crew changes and deployments going forward.
