In response to a significant number of calls from Indian seafarers who are facing challenges in India due to the impact of the second wave of COVID-19, the International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN) has launched a ‘Vaccination Drive for Indian Seafarers’ in collaboration with Narayana Health and the Medica Group of Hospitals.
ISWAN’s vaccination drive will facilitate administration of only World Health Organization-approved vaccines – currently COVISHIELD in India. Two doses are necessary and the government's guidelines for the gap between the doses should be followed.
In a circular issued by the Indian authorities on 7 June, the minimum gap between the two COVISHIELD doses has been reduced from 84 to 28 days for individuals seeking to undertake international travel for employment opportunities.
More information on the ISWAN initiative and the circular issued by the Indian government is available below.
