News: Coronavirus Update
News & Insights 13 February 2020
As of 13 February 2020, the Club understands that state-owned shipyards have resumed work albeit at reduced capacity, although privately owned yards remain closed and it is not clear when they will re-open.
Given the recent shutdown of both state-owned and privately owned shipyards due to the coronavirus outbreak, members may be experiencing difficulties accessing shipyards in China. As of 13 February 2020, the club understands that state-owned shipyards have resumed work albeit at reduced capacity, although privately owned yards remain closed and it is not clear when they will re-open. This can of course cause delays to vessels calling at, or due to call at, yards for drydocking, repairs or upgrades, in particular retrofitting of exhaust-gas scrubbers required to comply with the IMO Sulphur Cap. This could also cause delays to existing works or vessel deliveries.
Members are advised to closely liaise with shipyards in advance and club is always on hand to assist. If members have any questions in relation to this publication they should not hesitate to contact the authors or their usual club contact.
