A nationwide dock worker strike in Nigeria commenced on 3 July.
A nationwide dock worker strike in Nigeria commenced on 3 July. Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) appealed to all dock workers to go on strike in support of a claim for unpaid wages from the stevedores employed by the International Oil Companies (IOC).
Nigeria Tribune reported the following on 3 July "As early as 6:00 a.m., the gates leading into Nigeria’s busiest port, Apapa and Tin-Can ports were shut and all vehicular movement restricted. At about 8:45 a.m., the seaport workers softened their stance and allowed only private vehicles into the ports, barring all container trucks from entering into the ports."
Members affected by this strike are advised to contact their local agents for specific advice.
