The club is aware of reports that a Saudi-led coalition has struck the Yemeni port of Hodeidah while targeting rebel Houthi positions. Port officials have reported that cranes and warehouses have been destroyed in the attack.
The port is the main import hub for aid supplies to the north of the country and the Saudi-led coalition accuses the Houthi militias of using aid shipments for military purposes. The Houthi militias, backed by army units loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh, are reported to be in control of Red Sea coastal plain, including Hodeidah, and the northern highlands.
The port is reported to be closed. Stevedores and staff are not permitted to enter and all cargo operations have ceased.
Members should be cautious when calling at ports in the region. It is recommended that members carry out a full voyage risk-assessment and liaise closely with port and flag state authorities, as well as local agents. Members should notify their hull and machinery underwriters and war risks providers of any such call.
