Oil & Gas UK has published a new report highlighting the potential for substantial growth in Norway’s decommissioning market.

Oil & Gas UK has published a new report highlighting the potential for substantial growth in Norway’s decommissioning market. The Norwegian Continental Shelf Decommissioning Insight report is the first Norwegian decommissioning market report carried out by Oil & Gas UK and shows promising signs for the region.

Like the UK Continental Shelf, the Norwegian Continental Shelf is scattered with a large amount of concrete and steel facilities as well as a significant number of subsea systems. In Norway, most offshore facilities are tailor-made, so the ability to reuse the facilities is limited - good news for the decommissioning industry.

At present there are reportedly 23 decommissioning projects set to take place between 2015 and 2024 in the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Although the focus in the North Sea remains on maintaining production and extending field life, decommissioning continues to be a growing area, and these projects should help develop the skills, technologies and expertise required for increased efficiency in the decommissioning sector.
