Web alert: Paper Charts required by Suez Canal Authority
News & Insights 4 March 2016

After the opening of the new Suez Canal in August 2015, the Suez Canal Authority advised that ships transiting the Canal must have Admiralty Charts Nos. SCO1 & SCO2 on board (as per SCA Circular 5/2015, available here.) There was some uncertainty at the time over whether it was sufficient to have e-copies of these charts on board, but it has now been confirmed that paper copies are required. If these are found not to be on board, the vessel may be fined.
Members are recommended to ensure that paper copies of the charts are available on board in order to prevent unnecessary fines or delays in vessels’ canal transits. Copies of the charts can be obtained from reputable chart supply agents. Should members have any queries on this topic, please get in touch with your usual club contact.
