Web Alert: MCA draws attention to EEBD recall

The UK Maritime Coastguard Agency has released a safety bulletin concerning a specific make of ‘emergency escape breathing device’ (EEBD) which has been found to suffer from an inherent blockage and therefore does not fulfil the required rate for delivery of breathing air to the user.
The UK Maritime Coastguard Agency has released a safety bulletin concerning a specific make of ‘emergency escape breathing device’ (EEBD) which has been found to suffer from an inherent blockage and therefore does not fulfil the required rate for delivery of breathing air to the user. The product, Hwayan EEBD TH15B, has been subject to a voluntary product recall. The MCA has stated that this recall should affect approximately 700 units in total, for details on specific Lot numbers, refer to the MCA’s alert, attached.
Members are advised to check their EEBD’s onboard to determine if they are affected and if so, contact the manufacturer for a replacement unit. Details of how to contact the manufacturer are included on page 2 of the alert.
