Web Alert: Launch of the joint Paris and Tokyo CIC on the safety of navigation
News & Insights 2 August 2017
The Paris and Tokyo CICs will commence on 1 September 2017 and end on 30 November 2017.
The club would like to make members aware that the Paris and Tokyo MOUs have announced the launch of their joint concentrated inspection campaign (CIC) which will focus on the safety of navigation. The Paris and Tokyo CICs will commence on 1 September 2017 and end on 30 November 2017. During this period a vessel will only be subject to a single inspection under the auspices of this CIC.
Port State Control Officers will conduct their CIC inspections using a list of twelve questions designed to ensure:
- that the navigation equipment carried onboard complies with relevant statutory certificates
- that the master and navigation officers are qualified and familiar with the operation of bridge equipment, especially ECDIS
- that navigation equipment is properly maintained and functioning.
The Paris and Tokyo MOUs have stated that they expect to conduct approximately 10,000 inspections during the period of the CIC.
For guidance on ECDIS familiarisation please see the most recent edition of Standard Safety on the right. Further details on the CIC twelve questions are also attached on the right.
