We would like to make members aware of the results of a Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) which was mounted jointly by the Paris and Tokyo MOU’s. The CIC focussed on the Safety of Navigation including ECDIS during the period from 1 September through 30 November 2017.
The overall results of the CIC were positive and there were some interesting findings relating to ECDIS. 4027 questionnaires were completed, resulting in 47 detentions directly related to the requirements for the safety of navigation. Positive results were recorded on:
⦁ Familiarity with the procedure of emergency operation of the steering gear(99.4%)
⦁ Transmitting of the correct particulars of AIS (99.3%)
⦁ Recognition of the stages of the remote audible alarm of BNWAS (98.6%)
Also notable were the negative findings relating to ECDIS, specifically:
Recordings on appropriate up to date electronic charts and back up arrangements (96.2%).
The full results of the CIC will be further analysed and the final report published on the Paris MOU website. For more information please refer to the attached document.
