Since its creation in September 2015, the club’s pre-employment medical examination (PEME) scheme has conducted over 12,500 examinations on behalf of club members. These examinations have been fundamental in the club’s efforts to reduce the toll of preventable illness claims.
New clinic network
Previously, the scheme’s activities were limited to a network of 16 clinics in the Philippines. The expansion means that members and seafarers can now access enhanced PEME services in the following countries:
- Indonesia
- India
- Ukraine
- Philippines
This expansion increases the number of clinics to over 40, in over 20 different locations. For a full list of the clinics enrolled in our network, please visit the page on the right.
Despite these exciting changes, the overriding principle of The Standard Club’s PEME scheme remains unchanged. Our scheme is focussed on ensuring that members receive seafarers’ PEME certificates that they can trust and that preventable claims are kept to a minimum.
Seafarers benefit from participation in the scheme by taking advantage of medical treatment/advice which can extend their careers, especially in the case of untreated chronic illness.
Scheme administrators
The Marine Advisory Medical Service (MAMS) administers the PEME scheme. MAMS is a medical organisation specifically for the maritime industry, with offices in Singapore, United Kingdom and Australia.
The organisation offers a broad spectrum of medical and medico legal related services, from assisted repatriation of sick and injured seafarers to custom designed pre-employment medical examinations, including their implementation in various countries, and the monitoring thereof. Medical case monitoring and assessment of hospitalisation charges are also part of the portfolio. MAMS has a high commitment to prompt execution of the tasks allocated, and works side by side with claims handlers to offer constructive advice and edical expertise.
