Following China’s ratification of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments, the authorities have issued a document on the supervision and management of ship ballast water and sediment upon entry into Chinese waters.
Apparently the local enforcement measures by Chinese Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) have been in force from 22 January 2019. The attached document on the right issued by the club’s local correspondents Huatai Marine provides further details on the proper procedure of discharging, treatment and documentation of the ship’s ballast water while in Chinese waters.
Members with ships trading in China are recommended to take note of these requirements and ensure compliance to avoid any penalties and any other potential problems.
