Web Alert: China eases quarantine measures against Zika virus

News & Insights 10 March 2017

Members are advised that there has been a reported change in respect of the port entry requirements for vessels entering China from Zika affected countries.

Further to the club's previous web alert, members are advised that there has been a reported change in respect of the port entry requirements for vessels entering China from Zika affected countries.

The club’s local correspondents in China (Huatai) have checked with Chinese Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (CIQ) and confirmed that the previously issued 'Notice on Prevention and Control of the Zika Virus into China' has become void on 2 March 2017 and expected not to be renewed.

Consequently, the previous requirement for vessels to produce a mosquito eradication certificate (MEC) prior to entry into Chinese ports, no longer exist. However, as this is a latest development, the club’s correspondent recommend vessels calling Chinese ports to check on the local requirements through their agents.
