Owing to the impact of global warming and climate change, the intensity and occurrence of tropical storms are rising every year. The club has noted a steady rise in weather related claims, majority of these relate to disputes arising out of damage or delays.

Yves Vandenborn, Director of Loss Prevention discusses typhoon season in Korea with Shipper's Journal, sharing the challenges it presents for ship operators and the shipping business as a whole. 

'The club has noted a steady rise in weather related claims, with the majority of these relate to disputes arising out of damage or delays. For example, cases where ships have to deviate from their planned route to avoid or seek shelter from adverse weather conditions, this could lead to the late delivery of cargo and to potential losses to cargo receivers; Not only that: these circumstances make it impossible for a ship to load or discharge cargo at an agreed place as specified in the contract of carriage.'
