COVID-19 continues to spread at an alarming rate forcing governments across the globe to implement ever stricter measures in an attempt to contain the pandemic.

While many states have already imposed a total lockdown other jurisdictions are reviewing their strategy on a daily basis. These measures are causing significant disruption to seaborne trade and especially to the seafarers.
The latest WHO COVID-19 situation dashboard confirms over 375,000 confirmed cases in 195 countries. More than 16,360 people have lost their lives.
WHO and FIFA have jointly launched the 'Five steps to kicking out coronavirus' campaign to spread awareness.
The Nautical Institute has shared guidance on their website and applauded the vital work undertaken by seafarers in the battle to beat COVID-19. The institute has also shared information that Seagull Maritime and Videotel have launched a new programme called: 'Coronavirus - how to beat it' - atraining module which is available free for the maritime industry here.
DNVGL has also issued a statement confirming that it will generally accept the coronavirus situation as an exceptional circumstance in terms of granting postponement for those surveys where this is possible based on class rules and statutory conventions. More information is available here.
