Following a significant increase in infections within the community, the Hong Kong authorities have announced that crew change arrangement for passenger vessels and cargo vessels without cargo operation in Hong Kong would be suspended with effect from July 29.

The testing and quarantine arrangement for sea crew members of cargo vessels coming to Hong Kong for cargo operation, air crew members and other persons exempted from quarantine requirement (exempted persons) arriving in Hong Kong will also be tightened.

Hong Kong Shipowners Association (HKSOA) and Hong Kong Liner Shipping Association (HKLSA) has issued a letter condemning the  irresponsible behaviour of some practitioners while performing crew changes in Hong Kong and have urged the shipping community to strictly follow all the rules, protocols and precautionary measures set by the port authorities and shipping companies to protect public health.
