This year the Standard Offshore Forum in Singapore was an afternoon event, paired with a member seminar in the morning, and a lunch which all guests were invited to attend. We welcomed guests to the Marina Mandarin on Wednesday 17th October and found that both sessions were equally popular.
The Offshore forum is designed for shipowners in the offshore oil and gas industry to meet and talk with their contractor and oil company clients in an informal environment, so includes a lively discussion forum as well as presentations. These talks were designed to highlight issues from a range of different perspectives so a number of external presenters joined our Standard Club representatives and all showed a comprehensive knowledge of their chosen topics.
Speakers included David Palmer from Pareto Securities and Anne-Charlotte Courtois from Marsh who engaged the audience with commercial and insurance views of the offshore energy market. William Wright from CT Energy and Robert Dorey, Standard Club Offshore Director, each spoke about FPSO claims, covering both hull and P&I perspectives. Sharmini Murugason, Offshore syndicate Claims Director for Standard Club, gave a P&I opinion on contracting by construction and installation contractors. Next, George Nassaouati from JLT Energy joined another Standard Club representative, John Croucher, comparing views on CAR. Finally, Guy Hardaker from Holman Fenwick Willan rounded off the presentations with an enlightening talk on Offshore indemnities, before Robert Dorey opened the floor for guests to pose their thoughts.
The Member Seminar, held in the morning, featured a wider range of topics to appeal to all participants in the shipping industry. Presentations included an update from the recent board meeting, an explanation of our new club products, an exploration of the Maritime Labour Convention, a talk on collision claims in Chinese waters and a wide-ranging question and answer session.
